America The Beautiful?

Part 1

The song America the Beautiful popped into my head just as I was going to bed the night after the elections. It wasn’t exactly the song that I grew up with that was going through my head. It was more like the darkening of our spacious skies.

I decided to look up the lyrics to that beloved old patriotic song and thought how far we have fallen when reading them aloud. I remember when I was a little girl we would sing America the Beautiful in school programs. Even then, knowing nothing of politics or caring about such things, but feeling pride in being an American and what that meant. Freedom.

I’ve always loved history, always loved reading about different countries and their histories. There was always one thing that stood out about America. It was our freedom. A freedom that no one else in the world had ever known. Free to live our lives as individuals. Succeeding or failing as individuals.

The first verse asks God to shine His grace on thee and crown the good with brotherhood. My question. Where is the brotherhood of good? Brotherhood has turned into collectivism. And good? Well suffice it to say, good has been turned upside down on its head. What once was thought of as good has become bad and bad has become good.

Just a couple of cases in point:

  1. Standing up for traditional marriage now is equal to being a homophobic bigot. God forbid if you are a person of color and hold to these principles. Then you are labeled with being an Uncle Tom, house “n-word” homophobic bigot.
  2. Oppose abortion? Well then you just hate women period and believe they belong in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. Or as one liberal pundit (Nancy Giles) put it, I’m paraphrasing, “Conservatives oppose abortion so whites can strengthen and keep down the minorities.” I’m sorry there Nancy, but that has got to be one of the dumbest uninformed statements I’ve ever heard. Poor minority residential areas are littered with abortion clinics. Good ol’ Margret Sanger would be proud of her early efforts to keep minorities and the other so-called unfit from becoming more populous. Planned Parenthood has flourished on abortions in minority communities. Tens of millions of babies being murdered in the womb is somehow a good thing. And we dare ask God to shed His grace on this?

The second verse speaks of the Pilgrims whose feet trod the beginnings of freedom across a wilderness they knew nothing of with “stern impassioned stress.” Why? Why did they leave their homelands to embark on a dangerous journey across a vast ocean to face an unknown wilderness? Freedom!

They fled to escape religious persecution, to worship God as their conscience dictated. Also to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Though there are those that would love to leave this fact out of our country’s history, (and some do intentionally), the fact remains, this country, in its beginnings, was begun for the explicit purposes of spreading the Word of God and freedom of religion.

Here is a modern-day version of the Mayflower Compact:

“In the name of God, Amen. We,
whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord,
King James, by the Grace of God, of England, France and Ireland, King, defender
of the Faith, e&. Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of
the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant
the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents,
solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and
combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering
and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to
enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts,
Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and
convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due
submission and obedience. In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our
names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord,
King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the
fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620.”

There followed the signatures of 41 of the passengers, 37 of whom were members of the Separatists.  This compact established the first basis in the new world for written laws.

The first reason listed for their voyage; Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of
the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant
the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia;

What we have now is a far cry from where we started as a nation. Militant atheists would like nothing better than to eradicate the religious history of this country. We also have the so-called enlightened progressives that tell us, “Yes, it is okay to believe in God but keep Him out of the public square.” God is not allowed to influence our way of thinking when it comes to politics especially when it has anything to do with making public policy. Us bitter clingers need to just shut up and sit down.  Just the singing of America the Beautiful in a public school program will bring a lawsuit from the ACLU so fast it makes your head spin. Yes we sure have come a long way from the first textbook being used for a classroom was the Bible. Those beautiful ” Pilgrim’s feet whose stern impassioned stress a thoroughfare of freedom beat” has been bought off with freebies from an ever oppressing federal government.

The second verse also speaks of self control and liberty in law. We live in a society now that does nothing but seek out and find excuses for one’s abhorrent behavior. “Aww, poor little Billy had a bad childhood. He’s not responsible for his actions now. Poor little Billy got a spanking with a belt so he’s been programmed to think murder, rape, incest, robbery, (throw in whatever you like), is okay. He doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong.” BS!

As for liberty in law, that standard has been flushed down the proverbial toilet. Those with money, power and connections are held above the law especially if you hold a certain political viewpoint.

The third verse speaks of the heroes past who gave their fortunes and life’s blood for liberation from tyranny. Today our military heroes are vilified, their votes suppressed and are pressured to adhere, during a time of war, to ridiculous ROE’s (Rules of Engagement) that are getting them killed at a far greater rate. If you love your freedom, thank a vet!

It speaks of nobleness as being our success. Where is the nobility in the taking from someone else, their property and earnings to give to those who refuse to share the burden but yet feel they are entitled to the fruits of your labor? Where is the nobility in the slaughter of tens of millions of babies that never see the light of day, for the god of convenience? And again, we dare ask God our gold to refine and to make our gain divine?

Fourth verse, our patriot dreams are no longer beautiful. Being patriotic has become intolerance according to many. What real patriots now see in our years beyond is oppression and tyranny much like our forefathers fought to be free of. The alabaster cities no longer gleam. They are soaked in poverty, degradation and crime. The worst of these have been ruled by the left for years and only keep their stranglehold by the promise of free cellphones, free healthcare, food stamps and free money. Those that live in these once gleaming cities have also lost the liberty to better themselves. They are no longer allowed to even think for themselves or they are ostracized by the community they live in. Why ask God for His grace when half the country looks to a corrupt government that has run amok, as their god and provider?
